Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak high pressure system will remain close to southeast Queensland over the next few days and maintain a weak ridge along Queensland's east coast. An upper level trough will move eastwards across the state on Friday and move off the east coast during Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers about the east coast and about the eastern interior with more frequent showers about the North Tropical Coast. Cloud will spread to the southwest of the state with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms will develop about the Channel Country.Fine and mostly sunny cross the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh southeast winds about the east coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Friday 23 MayThe ridge along the east coast should continue to push moisture across the state, and some scattered showers across the eastern districts, extending inland into the northern interior. Meanwhile an upper level trough will move eastwards across the state, producing scattered showers and mainly isolated storms over the southern and central districts. Some of these storms may be severe. Fine and mostly sunny in the northwest.Saturday 24 MayA new high over southeast Queensland should push drier air into western Queensland, leaving the region fine and mostly sunny. Meanwhile the upper trough should contract off the southeast coast during the day, though a lingering onshore wind flow should still produce mainly isolated showers about the eastern districts and the central interior.Sunday 25 MayThe high should remain slow moving close to southeast Queensland directing onshore winds onto the northeast tropical coast. Dry air across much of Queensland should keep most of the state fine and mostly sunny except for the chance of isolated showers about the northeast coast.Monday until WednesdayThe high should move into the Tasman Sea and remain there during the early part of the new week, maintaining fine and sunny conditions across most of Queensland except for some showers about parts of the east coast. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
