MELBOURNE - May 18/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

A new high will enter the Tasman Sea late Wednesday, reinforcing the ridge. A series of upper level troughs will shift east over western and southern Queensland during the next few days, generating some cloud though with little rainfall expected. Forecast for the rest of SundayCloudy with isolated to scattered showers about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Patchy cloud over much of the interior though with just the chance of very isolated light showers. Fresh and gusty southeasterly winds north of about Fraser Island. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeasterly winds about the east coast north of Fraser Island. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Tuesday 20 MayA new high will move east from the Great Australian Bight towards southeastern Australia, maintaining an onshore wind flow and showers about the east Queensland coast and nearby inland areas north of about Brisbane, with showers more frequent about the east tropical coast. An upper trough will move east over the interior of the state, increasing instability and the likelihood of isolated showers and possible thunderstorms, particularly over the central and southern interior.Wednesday 21 MayThe new high will strengthen and shift east towards the Tasman Sea, reinforcing the ridge along the east Queensland coast. Isolated to scattered showers will occur about eastern districts in the onshore wind flow, mostly north of about Fraser Island. The upper level trough will contract east off the southern coast, stabilising conditions over the state with just the chance of isolated light showers over the interior east of about Longreach. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur in the west.Thursday 22 MayThe high should shift a little further east through the Tasman Sea, extending moist onshore winds into much of eastern and far northern Queensland with isolated showers expected, more frequent near the central and east tropical coasts. The interior should be fine and partly cloudy under the stabilising influence of the ridge.Friday until SundayThe high should shift only slowly east through the Tasman Sea, maintaining a moist onshore wind flow and isolated to scattered showers about much of eastern Queensland. An upper level trough will move east over the interior of the state during Friday, most likely enhancing the shower activity over eastern districts and also generating isolated showers and thunderstorms over the interior with its passage. This trough should shift east off the Queensland coast during Saturday, with showers gradually contracting to eastern districts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Monday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 17:15 on Sunday 18 May 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "www") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
