Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 16/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge over eastern Queensland. The firm ridge will continue to affect the state as the high pressure system remains slow moving over the weekend and into next week.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated to scattered showers about about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine and mostly clear over the interior. Fresh to strong southeast winds along the east coast, and generally moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Saturday 17 MayIsolated to scattered showers about about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine and mostly sunny over the interior. Fresh to strong southeast winds along the east coast, and generally moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Sunday 18 MayAn upper level ridge over most of Queensland should maintain fine conditions over the interior. The high pressure system in the Tasman Sea should maintain fresh to strong onshore winds and mostly isolated showers about Queensland's eastern districts. An upper trough will move through southwestern Queensland during the day, and some high cloud will thicken as spread across the southern inland, however no rainfall is expected.Monday 19 MayThe high pressure system in the Tasman Sea should maintain showers about Queensland's eastern districts and fine and mostly sunny conditions over the interior. A weak trough moving through the southern interior will generate some cloudy conditions over southern districts but little or no rain is expected from this system.Tuesday 20 MayThe high pressure system in the Tasman should be replaced by a new high moving through southern Australia, with the ridge being maintained along the east coast. Showers are therefore expected about Queensland's eastern districts and adjacent interior. An upper trough moving through inland Queensland is expected to produce afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms in the central and southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions expected elsewhere.Wednesday until FridayThe upper level trough will move into eastern Queensland on Wednesday before another trough shifts into western Queensland on Friday. These troughs are likely to produce some high cloud and isolated showers, and possibly some isolated thunderstorms over the southern interior. The high in the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards and gradually weaken, though showers are still expected about eastern Queensland.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
