Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 15/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea is expected to remain near stationary while slowly strengthening, maintaining a firm ridge over eastern Queensland. An upper trough over the central interior will weaken as it drifts eastwards today, contracting off the east coast during Friday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated to scattered showers about eastern districts. Fine and mostly clear over the remainder of the state. Moderate to fresh southeast winds along the east coast, and mainly moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Friday 16 MayIsolated to scattered showers about about the east coast and nearby inland. Fine and mostly sunny conditions over the interior. Fresh to strong southeast winds along the east coast, and mainly moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Saturday 17 MayThe upper trough will move well off the east coast, with a strong upper ridge developing over Queensland. This will lead to stable conditions and fine weather over most of the state. The high pressure system in the Tasman Sea will strengthen, with the ridge along the east coast of Queensland continuing to develop; this should maintain fresh to strong onshore winds and mostly isolated showers about Queensland's eastern districts.Sunday 18 MayThe upper level ridge will move slowly eastwards over eastern Queensland, maintaining fine conditions over the interior. The high pressure system in the Tasman Sea should maintain fresh to strong onshore winds and mostly isolated showers about Queensland's eastern districts. An upper trough will move through southwestern Queensland during the day, and some high cloud will thicken as spread across the southern inland, however no rainfall is expected.Monday 19 MayA high pressure system in the Tasman should maintain showers about Queensland's eastern districts and fine and mostly sunny conditions over the interior. A weak trough moving through the southern interior will generate some cloudy conditions over southern districts but little or no rain is expected from this system.Tuesday until ThursdayA series of upper troughs will move across the south of the state, producing some high cloud, and possible some showers over the southern inland. The high in the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards and gradually weaken, with southeasterly trade winds gradually easing along the east coast. Isolated to scattered showers should continue along the east coast, and this activity may increase a little over the southeast under the influence of the upper trough. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
