Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A new high will enter southeastern Australia today and is expected to strengthen as it shifts east into the Tasman Sea on Monday, reinforcing the ridge along the east Queensland coast. A weak upper trough and an associated patchy cloud band will move further north through the interior today. Another upper trough will enter western Queensland on Monday and is expected to intensify while moving east across the state during Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SundayShowers increasing about the east tropical coast, with some isolated shower activity extending inland into the eastern tropical interior during the day. Isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast and adjacent inland. Patchy cloud moving north into the North West and central interior with possible light rain areas. Isolated showers over southern districts, mostly about the far southern Maranoa and Darling Downs where some isolated afternoon storms are also possible. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate southeasterly winds along the east coast, fresh and gusty north of about St. Lawrence. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Monday 12 MayA firm ridge will persist over eastern Queensland as the high shifts east into the Tasman Sea and strengthens. Scattered showers will occur about the east tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. The new upper trough will enter northwestern Queensland, increasing instability over much of the state. Showers should increase about the central and southern coasts and adjacent inland during the day with possible isolated storms developing. Isolated showers will occur over the southern and southeastern interior and central west, particularly over the far southern Darling Downs and Maranoa where some isolated storms remain likely.Tuesday 13 MayThe new upper trough is expected to intensify as it shifts eastwards over the Queensland interior, increasing instability over eastern and northern districts and combining with an onshore wind flow to generate showers and possible storms, more frequent near the east coast. Isolated showers will also possibly develop through the central and southeastern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur through western Queensland.Wednesday 14 MayThe upper trough should move slowly eastwards maintaining instability over eastern districts. The high in the Tasman Sea will remain slow-moving with a moist onshore flow continuing along the east coast. Scattered showers and possible isolated storms are expected along much of the east coast with some of the activity extending into the northern and eastern interior during the afternoon. A dry airmass will lead to fine and mostly sunny conditions in the west.Thursday until SaturdayThe upper trough should continue to move east, most likely contracting off the southern Queensland coast during Friday. The high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and moist onshore winds over eastern Queensland. The moist wind flow will combine with instability provided by the upper trough to enhance showers about the east Queensland coast and adjacent inland and also possibly generate some isolated storms, mainly offshore. Some isolated showers may extend into the eastern interior, while fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist through most of the interior of the state.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
