Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 10/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high in the Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. A new high will enter southeastern Australia on Sunday and is expected to strengthen as it shifts east into the Tasman Sea on Monday, reinforcing the ridge along the east Queensland coast. A weak upper trough is moving eastwards across southern Queensland and will maintain weak instability across the south of the state on Sunday. Another upper trough will enter western Queensland on Monday and is expected to intensify while move east across the state during Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers about the east coast and adjacent inland, tending scattered about parts of the North Tropical Coast and about the exposed coastal fringe in the far southeast. Isolated showers about the far north of Cape York Peninsula. Patchy cloud through the central and southern interior but with no rainfall expected. Fine and mostly clear in the northwest. Moderate southeasterly winds along the east coast, fresh and gusty north of Fraser Island. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Sunday 11 MayShowers will become more frequent about the east tropical coast and some shower activity should extend inland into the eastern tropical interior. Isolated showers elsewhere about the east coast and adjacent inland. Patchy cloud and isolated showers over the southern and southeastern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions through much of the central interior and the northwest of the state. Moderate southeasterly winds along the east coast, fresh and gusty north of about St. Lawrence. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Fire Danger - High in the Central Highlands district, low to moderate elsewhere.Monday 12 MayA firm ridge should be maintained over eastern Queensland as the high shifts east into the Tasman Sea and strengthens. Scattered showers will persist about the east tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. A surface trough should shift northwards through southern waters, gradually enhancing shower activity about the central and southern coasts. Isolated showers are likely to extend inland into the eastern Darling Downs. A new upper trough will enter western Queensland and may provide enough instability to produce some isolated showers about the southern interior. Fine and mostly sunny conditions about the central interior and northwest.Tuesday 13 MayThe new upper trough is expected to intensify as it shifts eastwards over the Queensland interior, increasing instability over eastern districts and combining with an onshore wind flow to generate isolated showers, more frequent with possible isolated storms north of Fraser Island. Patchy cloud should extend into the central and southern interior but it should remain fine due to dry air in the lower part of the atmosphere. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur through western Queensland.Wednesday 14 MayThe upper trough should move only slowly eastwards maintaining instability over eastern districts. The high in the Tasman Sea will remain slow-moving with a moist onshore flow continue along the east coast. Scattered showers are expected along much of the east coast with isolated showers extending into the eastern interior during the afternoon. Dry air over the interior of the state should lead to fine and mostly sunny conditions over much of the interior of the state.Thursday until SaturdayThe upper trough should move only slowly east, most likely contracting off the southern Queensland coast during Friday. The high will remain slow moving in the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and moist onshore winds over eastern Queensland. The moist wind flow will combine with instability provided by the upper trough to enhance showers about the east Queensland coast and adjacent inland and also possibly generate some isolated storms, mainly offshore. Some isolated showers may extend into the eastern interior, while fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist through most of the interior of the state. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
