MELBOURNE - May 9/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high in the Tasman Sea extends a firm ridge along the east Queensland coast. A new high will enter southeastern Australia on Sunday and is expected to strengthen as it shifts east into the Tasman Sea on Monday, reinforcing the ridge along the east Queensland coast and through the Gulf of Carpentaria. An upper trough will move east over southern Queensland during the weekend. Another upper trough will enter western Queensland on Monday and is expected to intensify while shifting east through the interior on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayScattered showers about the central and east tropical coasts south of about Cairns. Isolated showers about the remaining east tropical coast, extending into the eastern tropical interior during the afternoon. Isolated showers over the southern coast, extending to the southeast inland during the afternoon and becoming more frequent about the Sunshine Coast and southern Wide Bay. Cloud extending through the central and southern interior though with only isolated, mostly light showers expected. Fine and mostly sunny in the northwest. Moderate southeasterly winds along the east coast, fresh and gusty north of Fraser Island. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly elsewhere.Sunday 11 MayThe ridge along the east Queensland coast will strengthen as the new high moves east into southeastern Australia. Showers will become more frequent about the east tropical coast as winds freshen and tend more onshore, and some shower activity should extend inland into the eastern tropical interior. The upper trough will shift into southeastern Queensland, most likely enhancing shower activity near the southern coast and through the far southern interior. Isolated showers are possible over the central interior. Fine and sunny conditions will persist in the far northwest.Monday 12 MayA firm ridge should be maintained over eastern Queensland as the high shifts east into the Tasman Sea and strengthens. Scattered showers will persist about the east tropical coast in the onshore wind flow. A surface trough will potentially shift north through southern waters, gradually enhancing shower activity about the central and southern coasts. A new upper trough will enter western Queensland and combine with a moist easterly wind flow to generate isolated showers through the interior, mostly through northern and eastern parts.Tuesday 13 MayThe new upper trough will most likely intensify as it shifts east over the Queensland interior, increasing instability over eastern districts and combining with an onshore wind flow to generate isolated showers, more frequent with possible isolated storms near and north of Fraser Island. Some cloud should extend into the central and southern interior though with just the chance of isolated showers. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should occur through western Queensland in a drier airmass west of the upper trough.Wednesday until FridayThe upper trough should move only slowly east, most likely contracting off the southern Queensland coast during Friday. The high will shift slowly east through the Tasman Sea, maintaining a firm ridge and moist onshore winds over eastern Queensland. The moist wind flow will combine with instability provided by the upper trough to enhance showers about the east Queensland coast and adjacent inland and also possibly generate some isolated storms. Some isolated showers may extend into the central and eastern interior, while fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist in the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland Queensland's improving weather services Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 01:00 on Saturday 10 May 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "www") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
