MELBOURNE - May 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high near Tasmania is moving slowly northeast and is expected to shift into the Tasman Sea during Friday, maintaining a ridge across Queensland. An upper level trough lies over the southern interior and is expected to strengthen today before moving off the southeast coast on Friday. A second, weak upper trough will pass through southern Queensland over the weekend. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers and possible thunderstorms over southeastern Queensland, with showers tending scattered near the coast. Isolated showers about Cape York Peninsula. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate south to southeast winds, fresh about parts of the east coast. Strong winds developing over Capricornia and Fraser Island waters during the afternoon and evening.Friday 9 MayThe upper level trough will move off the southeast coast eliminating any potential for storms across Queensland. The high should drift into the Tasman Sea, with isolated shower activity extending north along Queensland's east coast. Another upper trough over central Australia will increase cloud over the southwest, but bring little or no rain. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state.Saturday 10 MayA firm ridge will persist along the Queensland east coast with isolated showers expected for far eastern Queensland. The new upper level trough should extend some cloud over the southern interior, though little or no rain is expected. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state.Sunday 11 MayA firm ridge should be maintained over eastern Queensland with isolated showers continuing for coastal areas, tending scattered along the north tropical coast. The upper level trough will strengthen slightly, generating cloudy areas and some isolated showers over southeast parts of the state.Monday until WednesdayThe high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea and continue to push mostly isolated showers along the Queensland east coast. Another upper level trough moving through southern Queensland may produce some isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over the southeastern interior until it clears the coast late Tuesday or Wednesday.
