Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high near Tasmania is moving slowly, and expected to move northeastwards and eventually into the Tasman Sea by late in the week. An upper level trough lies over the southern interior and is expected to strengthen a little during Thursday before moving off the southeast coast on Friday. The next upper trough will pass through southern Queensland over the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers about Cape York Peninsula and the southeast coast. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate south to southeast winds.Thursday 8 MayIsolated showers about Cape York Peninsula. Isolated showers over southeast Queensland with possible thunderstorms. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate south to southeast winds, fresh about parts of the coast.Friday 9 MayThe upper level trough should move off the southeast coast eliminating any further potential for storms across Queensland. The high should drift into the Tasman Sea and will push some mainly isolated showers across Queensland's east coast. Another upper trough over central Australia should produce some cloud over the Channel Country, but with little or no rain. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state.Saturday 10 MayThe high is expected to move slowly eastwards in the Tasman Sea as another high centre moves into the Great Australian Bight. The high will extend a firm ridge along the Queensland east coast with isolated showers expected for far eastern Queensland. The new upper level trough should extend some cloud over the southern interior, though little or no rain is expected. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state.Sunday 11 MayThe high will weaken slightly in the Coral Sea as another high strengthens over southeastern Australia. The firm ridge should be maintained over eastern Queensland with isolated showers continuing for coastal areas. The upper level trough will push cloudy areas into southeast parts of the state, producing little if any rain.Monday until WednesdayThe high is expected to remain over the Tasman Sea and continue to push mostly isolated showers along the Queensland east coast. Another upper level trough moving through southern Queensland may produce some isolated showers over the eastern interior until it clears the coast late Tuesday. Fine and mostly sunny across the remainder of the state.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
