Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge over eastern Victoria will move eastwards tonight as a cold front approaches the western Victorian border. The front is expected to cross western districts on Friday morning then evolve into a low pressure complex as it moves over the eastern half of the State Friday night before deepening just east of Bass Strait during Saturday. The low will then move rapidly southeastwards over the Tasman sea on Sunday and another cold front is expected to move northeastwards from the Southern Ocean to affect Victoria late on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayPatchy rain developing over the southwest. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Light to moderate northwesterly winds.Friday 2 MayAreas of rain in the west. Showers developing over most other areas but remaining mostly dry over East Gippsland. Local hail and thunder developing in the west. Snowfalls lowering to between 1200 and 1500 metres. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds shifting colder and gusty south to southwesterly over western areas during the day.Saturday 3 MayAreas of rain over central and eastern districts with possible hail and thunder near the coast. Scattered showers in the west, clearing later over the northwest. Snow above 1400 metres. A cold mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwesterly winds.Sunday 4 MayScattered showers over southern and mountain areas, widespread at first in East Gippsland. Isolated showers reaching the northern plains. Snowfalls down to 1200 metres. A cold and mostly cloudy day generally fresh southwesterly winds, strong to gale force at first about the Gippsland coast.Monday 5 MayIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, becoming scattered later in the day. Cool to cold and mostly cloudy with moderate to fresh west to northwest wind, shifting southwesterly about the coast at night.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Friday.Product IDV10310
