MELBOURNE - May 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weakening ridge of high pressure extends over much of New South Wales today while a trough slowly moves over the far northeast of the state tomorrow. A vigorous cold front is expected to move over the state over the weekend associated with a well developed upper trough that deepens into a cut-off low into Saturday. A significant cold outbreak is forecast to accompany the passage of this system combined with vigorous winds and unsettled weather. Conditions should ease later on Sunday as another high ridge moves across from the west. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers along the northern coast, possibly extending to the adjacent tablelands. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. Generally light winds tending west to northwesterly on the ranges in the south and east to northeast along the coastal districts.Friday 2 MayIsolated showers and the chance of afternoon thunderstorms in the far northeast. Rain areas and possible thunderstorms in the west, extending through the central parts later in the day. Fine elsewhere. Snow showers developing on higher parts of the Alps overnight. West to northwesterly winds, fresh and gusty in many areas, turning colder southwesterly in the west.Saturday 3 MayFine in the far west. Rain areas elsewhere, contracting east through the day. Snow showers on the Alps to around 1200 metres, and possibly about high parts of the ACT, Central Tablelands and Northern Tablelands. Cold, fresh to strong and gusty northwest to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Sunday 4 MayClearing showers in the east, mainly about the tablelands, with possible early snow about higher parts. Isolated snow showers on the Alps to around 1300 metres. Fine elsewhere. Cool west to southwesterly winds, fresh and gusty in the east.Monday 5 MayFine apart from isolated showers over the southern ranges, falling as snow above about 1600m. Morning frost about the ranges and slopes.
