Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 30/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge over western Victoria will contract to eastern Victoria on Thursday as a cold front approaches western Bass Strait later Thursday. This front is forecast to cross western districts Friday morning, central districts Friday afternoon and eastern districts late Friday and early Saturday. A low pressure system is likely to develop on the front near eastern Bass Strait Friday night, intensify during Saturday off the southeast coast of New South Wales before moving east across the Tasman Sea on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers over the southeast clearing tonight. Dry and partly cloudy elsewhere with light to moderate south to southwesterly winds easing from the west.Thursday 1 MayMorning fog and frost patches. A cool day with high cloud increasing from the west with patchy rain developing over the southwest late in the day. Light variable winds tending light to moderate west to northwesterly in the afternoon.Fire Danger -  Low to Moderate.Friday 2 MayAreas of rain in the west extending to central districts in the morning and eastern districts during the afternoon and evening. Rain easing to scattered showers over the southwest and clearing in the northwest during the afternoon and evening. Local hail and thunder in the west. Snow above 1000 metres. Moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds shifting colder and gusty south to southwesterly from the west during the day.Saturday 3 MayAreas of rain over the east contracting to Gippsland in the afternoon. Scattered showers with small hail elsewhere in the south. Isolated showers following the rain over the northeast. Isolated thunderstorms possible over East Gippsland. Snow above 1000 metres. Otherwise a cold, mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh and gusty south to southwesterly winds.Sunday 4 MayIsolated showers near and south of the ranges tending scattered over Gippsland and near the coast. Showers falling as snow above 1200 metres. A cool to cold and mostly cloudy day with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, fresh along the coastal fringe and about the ranges.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Thursday.Product IDV10310
