Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 28/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea is expected to move slowly northeast over the next few days. The high extends a ridge through eastern Queensland. A cold front will move eastwards into far southwestern Queensland late today, accompanied by an upper level trough further to the west.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers along much of the east coast. Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms developing in the far southwest later in the day. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate east to southeast winds, fresh at times about parts of the east coast. A late fresh and gusty south to southwest change over far southwestern areas of Queensland late in the day.Wednesday 30 AprilThe cold front should move eastwards across southern Queensland, producing patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms across the southern districts. Cool southerly winds behind the front. Fine and mostly dry across the remainder of the state, with just isolated showers about parts of the east coast.Thursday 1 MayThe cold front should weaken out over the southern interior, leaving relatively humid air remaining over southeast Queensland and it, along with a weak upper trough to the west should produce scattered showers and isolated storms over southeast districts. Isolated showers about the northeast of the state in the onshore flow. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Friday 2 MayA stronger upper trough will push through southern Queensland, with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms expected through southeast and central Queensland. Isolated showers about the southern tropical east and into the far north. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Cool to cold over southwestern Queensland.Saturday until MondayA strong high pressure ridge will establish itself over southern Australia late in the week and will push cold, dry air through most of the state. This will produce fine and sunny conditions for most of the state, with only the odd shower over the far north. Frosts are likely to be experienced across the southern interior and parts of the central interior during the weekend.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
