Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure near Tasmania extends a ridge along Queensland's east coast, and is expected to cause winds to freshen near the coast south of about St. Lawrence during today. A surface trough is expected to move eastwards across southern Queensland from late Tuesday, and will be accompanied by an upper level trough further to the west.
Forecast for the rest of MondayAreas of thundery rain near the southeast coast early in the day, contracting northwards during the afternoon and evening. Scattered showers over the southeast interior, easing during the day. Isolated showers about the remainder of the east coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate east to southeast winds across most of the state, fresh at times about parts of the state's far east.Tuesday 29 AprilA weakening onshore flow should cause isolated showers to ease during the day about the east coast. An upper trough and associated cold front is expected to reach the far southwest late in the day, generating some patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Wednesday 30 AprilThe cold front should move eastwards across southern Queensland, producing patchy rain and some isolated thunderstorms across the southern districts. Cool southerly winds behind the front. Fine and mostly dry across the remainder of the state, with just isolated showers about parts of the east coast.Thursday 1 MayThe cold front should weaken out over the southern interior, leaving relatively humid air remaining over southeast Queensland and it, along with a weak upper trough to the west should produce scattered showers and isolated storms over the state's southeast districts. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Friday until SundayA strong high pressure ridge will establish itself over southern Australia late in the week and will push cold, dry air through Queensland, leaving Queensland fine except for some scattered showers and storms in some lingering instability about the state's southeast during Friday. The southeast should clear by the weekend as the dry air spreads across the region. Frosts are likely to be experienced across the southern interior and parts of the central interior during the weekend. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
