Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 14/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Ita lies over the southern Coral Sea and is expected to continue moving southeast further away from the southern Queensland coast during today, with winds and waves gradually decreasing over southern Queensland waters. An upper trough will move east over the interior of the state during today and is expected to contract off the southern Queensland coast during Wednesday. A high will enter southern Australia late Wednesday, extending a firm ridge and dry airmass through southern and western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers and thunderstorms through the Peninsula and parts of the Gulf Country. Fine and mostly sunny in the southwest. Isolated to scattered showers elsewhere through the southern interior and into the Central West. Isolated showers over southeast and central districts south and west of about Mackay. Mostly fine over remaining central parts and the eastern tropics with just the chance of isolated showers. Southerly winds and large waves decreasing over southern Queensland waters during the day. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere, tending moderate to fresh southerly in the far west. Dangerous surf about the east coast of Fraser Island, easing during the day.Wednesday 16 AprilThe upper trough should move further east from the southern interior into central and southeast districts, generating isolated showers, mostly over inland parts. Isolated showers should occur along the east Queensland coast north Fraser Island in an onshore wind flow, tending scattered with isolated thunderstorms through the tropical interior and into the Peninsula and Gulf Country districts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected in the west.Thursday 17 AprilA dry airmass will extend into western and southern Queensland with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected apart from isolated showers near the exposed southern coast. Isolated to scattered showers will occur through the southern tropics and central coast (particularly inland parts) near a weak trough, while the northeastern tropical coast should remain mostly fine. Isolated to scattered showers and storms will persist through the Peninsula and near the Gulf of Carpentaria coast in a deep, moist easterly wind flow.Friday 18 AprilA large high should enter the Great Australian Bight and extend the firm ridge and a dry airmass further into western, central and southern Queensland. Showers and storms through the Peninsula as dry air extends from the south. The eastern tropics and central coast will be mostly fine with just the chance of isolated showers near a weak trough. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur over the remainder of the state under the dry airmass.Saturday until MondayThe large high should move across southern Australia maintaining dry and stable conditions across much of Queensland. A series of upper level troughs will move east over southern Queensland during the outlook period though should not generate shower or storm activity due to the dry southwesterly low level wind flow. Showers and storms will persist through the very far northern tropics, with just the chance of isolated showers over remaining northern parts.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
