A large high will move east over the Great Australian Bight and into the southern Tasman Sea during the forecast period, extending a firm ridge into southern Queensland waters. A series of upper level troughs will move east over central and southern Queensland during the forecast period.

A new upper trough will enter the interior of the state, with scattered showers and storms expected through the northern tropics and also about the southern and central interior. Mostly fine conditions are expected about the southern tropics and central coast with just the chance of isolated showers or storms. Conditions will remain fine and mostly sunny in the west.Wednesday 16 AprilThe upper trough should move further east from the southern interior into central and southeast districts, generating isolated showers and possible storms, mostly about inland parts. Isolated showers should occur along the east Queensland coast in an onshore wind flow, tending scattered with isolated thunderstorms north of about Townsville. Fine and mostly sunny conditions should persist in the west.Thursday 17 AprilA dry airmass will extend into western and southern Queensland with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected apart from isolated showers near the exposed southern coast.
