MELBOURNE - Apr 8/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high centred southwest of Tasmania will continue moving eastwards, reaching the southern Tasman Sea later today. A low pressure system will develop over southern South Australia this afternoon before moving slowly east to be over western Victoria late Thursday, then over the Bass Strait area on Saturday. A ridge of high pressure will develop over the west of the State in the wake of the low. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain east of about Ceduna to Ernabella, tending patchy in the far northeast and south of about Adelaide. Possible heavy falls with the chance of local flooding over the Mid North, Flinders, North West Pastoral and west of the North East Pastoral, all to the east of the Stuart Highway. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms west of about Ceduna to Ernabella. Generally cool to mild, grading to hot in the far northeast. Mainly light and variable winds.Thursday 10 AprilAreas of rain, tending to widespread rain over the agricultural area with possible heavy falls and the chance of local flooding. Rain easing later. Rain tending to isolated showers over the North West Pastoral and also west of Ceduna. Possible isolated thunderstorms east of about Keith to Oodnadatta. Cool to mild, grading to warm in the far northeast. Light and variable winds, becoming light to moderate southwesterly from the west during the day.Friday 11 AprilIsolated showers over the agricultural area and south of the Pastoral districts, scattered over the southern agricultural area till evening. Patchy rain in the far northeast clearing early in the morning. Cool in the south grading to mild to warm in the far northeast. Moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds.Saturday 12 April Isolated showers over the agricultural area and west coasts, scattered in the Lower South East in the morning. Cool in the south grading to mild in the far northeast with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds. Cumulative rainfall totals from Wednesday morning to midnight Saturday are expected to be 20 to 60 mm over much of the State, grading to less than 5 mm northeast of Moomba, and 15 to 25 mm west of Ceduna to Ernabella. Heavier falls of 60 to 100 mm are possible over eastern parts of the North West Pastoral, and the Flinders and Mid North districts. Local falls in excess of 60 mm are possible over the agricultural area east of Ceduna. Sunday until TuesdayThe chance of isolated showers over the southern agricultural area.
