Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A firm ridge of high pressure should persist along Queensland's east coast for the next few days, before weakening late in the week. Tropical Cyclone Ita lies over the northern Coral Sea well east of the Queensland coast and is expected to deepen further as it moves slowly westwards during the next few days. Temperatures will remain well above the April average through much of western Queensland during the week due to a static weather pattern and northeasterly winds.
Forecast for the rest of MondayFine and clear across most of the state except for some isolated showers about the east coast and some isolated storms (though with little or no rain) over the far southwest of the state. Moderate to fresh southeast winds over the eastern districts, and light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Tuesday 8 AprilFine and sunny across most of the state except for some isolated showers about the east coast, and some isolated storms over the far north. Just a few isolated storms over the Channel Country though with little or no rain. Moderate to fresh southeast winds over the eastern districts, and light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Wednesday 9 AprilA ridge of high pressure along the east coast should keep the state fine and sunny except for some isolated showers about the east coast, and some isolated storms over the far north. An upper level trough over Central Australia should produce just a few isolated storms over the Channel Country though with little or no rain.Thursday 10 AprilThe ridge should maintain fine and mostly sunny conditions across most of Queensland, though storms with little or no rain are again expected over the far southwest, and showers should continue over the east coast, more widespread and tending to rain about the North Tropical Coast and over the Peninsula District. Becoming windy also about the Peninsula district as Tropical Cyclone Ita approaches from the Coral Sea.Friday 11 AprilMost of Queensland will remain fine and mostly sunny. Mainly isolated showers and storms over the southern interior associated with an upper level trough. The forecasts for Far Northern Queensland are highly dependent on the movement and strength of Tropical Cyclone Ita, and at this stage the most likely scenario is for frequent showers to tend to rain periods about the North Tropical Coast, and for the possible landfall of Tropical Cyclone Ita over the Peninsula district to lead to some heavy falls and windy conditions over the region.Saturday until MondayA high amount of uncertainty is associated with the possible track of Tropical Cyclone Ita from Saturday onwards, however it can be more confidently asserted that active showers and possible rain periods are likely over the state's far north during at least the weekend. Still relatively quiet over the remainder of the state with fine conditions over much of the interior, however a new upper level trough should generate showers and storms over the southern districts during the weekend.
