Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 6/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A large high will enter the Tasman Sea today, extending a firm ridge into southern and central Queensland waters. Tropical Cyclone Ita lies over the northern Coral Sea well offshore of the north Queensland coast and is expected to deepen further as it moves slowly westwards during the next few days. Temperatures will remain well above the April average through much of western Queensland during the week due to a static weather pattern and northeasterly winds.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated to scattered showers extending from the Wide Bay into the Capricornia and southern central coast. Mostly fine about the remaining southeast with just the chance of isolated showers, mostly near the coastal fringe. Showers developing through the southern central interior with possible isolated thunderstorms, particularly about the Carnarvon Ranges. Isolated showers over the northeastern tropics, with possible thunderstorms developing near the east Peninsula coast late tonight. Isolated showers and possible storms through the southwest. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Fresh to strong south to southeasterly winds developing along much of the east coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds elsewhere.Tuesday 8 AprilTropical Cyclone Ita should move further west through the far northern Coral Sea though remain well offshore of the north Queensland coast. Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected over the north Peninsula, with isolated showers elsewhere over the northern tropics. The ridge will extend further north into the central and southern tropical coasts, with isolated to scattered showers expected in the onshore wind flow. Showers or thunderstorms should occur near the southwestern border though with little or no rainfall. Mostly fine conditions are expected over the remainder of the state.Wednesday 9 AprilTropical Cyclone Ita will most likely move further west over the northern Coral Sea while still remaining offshore of the north Queensland coast. Showers and thunderstorms will continue about the northern Peninsula, with isolated to scattered showers along the northeast tropical coast. A new high will enter the Tasman Sea, reinforcing the ridge through central and southern Queensland waters with isolated showers expected about the exposed coast. Showers or thunderstorms should occur near the southwestern border though with little or no rainfall. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere in the state.Thursday 10 AprilTropical Cyclone Ita will most likely move further west over the northern Coral Sea towards the far northern Queensland coast, however there is much uncertainty associated with the development and movement of the tropical cyclone. Showers and winds are likely to increase in the Peninsula late in the day depending on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Ita. Scattered showers should occur over the remaining east tropical coast. The high in the Tasman Sea will move to the southeast of New Zealand, relaxing the ridge along the southern and central Queensland coasts with decreasing winds and mostly fine conditions expected. An upper trough will approach southwestern Queensland, generating possible showers or thunderstorms near the southwestern Queensland border. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere in the state.Friday until SundayForecasts for northern Queensland are highly dependent on the movement of Tropical Cyclone Ita. At this stage Tropical Cyclone Ita will most likely move west across far northern Queensland and through the northern Gulf of Carpentaria during the outlook period, though a great deal of uncertainty exists with its movement. The cyclone should generate rain areas and thunderstorms with its passage. A weak ridge will persist about the east Queensland coast. A series of upper level troughs will move east over southern Queensland, with a more significant trough entering southeastern Queensland on Sunday and generating showers and storms with its passage.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
