MELBOURNE - Apr 4/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure extends along the east Queensland coast and is expected to weaken during the weekend. A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior and is expected to shift east into southeastern Queensland during Sunday. A coastal trough and an associated southerly wind change will shift north into far southern Queensland waters late on Sunday. A tropical low lies to the southwest of the Solomon Islands and is expected to move slowly westwards over the northern Coral Sea during the forecast period.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated to scattered showers and gusty thunderstorms over the southern interior, extending east into the southern Darling Downs. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the northern Peninsula. Isolated to scattered showers over the eastern tropics, with possible isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and thunderstorms near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Moderate southerly winds in the southwest. Fresh southeasterly winds along the east tropical coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere.Sunday 6 AprilThe inland trough will shift eastwards into southeastern Queensland, while a coastal trough will shift north along the New South Wales coast, most likely entering far southern Queensland waters during the afternoon or evening. Instability will extend from the southern interior into the southeast, with scattered showers and gusty storms expected. Some storms will likely be severe. Isolated showers and storms should occur about the far northern Peninsula and near the southern Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Monday 7 AprilThe coastal trough will shift further northwards through southern Queensland waters, while the inland trough will weaken and shift further west. A new high entering the Tasman Sea will build a ridge into southern Queensland waters in the wake of the trough. Isolated to scattered showers will occur over the southern, Wide Bay and Capricornia coasts, more frequent near the trough. The tropical low should shift further west through the northern Coral Sea though remain well offshore of the north Queensland coast. Isolated to scattered showers are expected over the eastern tropics, with possible thunderstorms north about Cairns. Isolated showers and storms should develop over the far southwest as a new upper level trough develops over Western Australia. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Tuesday 8 AprilThe tropical low should move further west through the far northern Coral Sea. Showers and thunderstorms will possibly increase about the east Peninsula coast as the tropical low moves closer. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will occur over the western Peninsula, mostly during the afternoon. The ridge will extend further north into the central and southern tropical coasts, with isolated to scattered showers expected in the onshore wind flow, mostly about the central coast. Showers and gusty thunderstorms should occur in the far southwest of the state as the upper level trough shifts further east into central Australia. Mostly fine conditions are expected over the remainder of the state.Wednesday until FridayThe tropical low will most likely move west across Cape York Peninsula or Torres Strait and through the northern Gulf of Carpentaria during the outlook period. Rain areas and thunderstorms with some locally heavy falls should extend through the far northern tropics due to the passage of the low. Isolated showers should occur along the remaining east coast in an onshore wind flow. The upper trough will move east, most likely entering the southwest of Queensland on Thursday. This will extend an unstable airmass further east through the southern interior with showers and storms expected. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
