MELBOURNE - Apr 4/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure extends from the Bight across southern Tasmania to the Tasman Sea. A low pressure trough over far eastern Victoria will deepen and shift eastwards overnight as a low pressure system develops to the east of Bass Strait. The low will move quickly eastwards during Saturday. The next high pressure system will drift eastwards over Tasmania on Sunday and will be centred over the south Tasman Sea on Monday. On Tuesday a low pressure system will be centred over South Australia and a cold front will cross Tasmania later. Forecast for the rest of FridayRain over the far east. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain districts, tending scattered in the east. Fine in the northwest. Moderate to locally fresh southerly winds, tending east to southeast over central and eastern regions.Saturday 5 AprilRain over far East Gippsland, easing to showers during the morning. Isolated showers over remaining southern and mountain areas, more frequent about the coast, mostly clearing during the afternoon. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds in the south, light winds in the north.Fire Danger - Low to Moderate.Sunday 6 AprilIsolated showers over East Gippsland clearing during the day. Fine and mainly sunny over the remainder of the State after early fog patches. Mild with moderate southeast winds, fresh at times over Gippsland.Monday 7 AprilFine after morning fog patches. Mostly sunny. Mild to warm with light to moderate east to northeast winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Tuesday 8 AprilIsolated showers developing from the west but remaining fine over the far east.
