Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 3/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast, and a surface trough stretches from the northwest of the state southwards into the Channel Country. The surface trough will move gradually eastwards across the southern districts over the next few days as an upper trough moves eastwards across new south Wales.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior, more isolated over the remaining western districts. Isolated showers about the southeast interior and about the northeast coast. Fine and clear over the remainder of the state. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds.Friday 4 AprilMainly isolated showers along the east coast, extending to adjacent inland areas during the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast and northern Peninsula district. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 5 AprilThe upper trough will weaken and slide to the southeast, with the remnants passing over southeast Queensland during the day. Its associated surface trough is likely to stagnate over the southern inland. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are again expected over the southern interior, while isolated showers should continue in the onshore flow along the east coast, becoming more widespread with the possibility of a few thunderstorms over the far northern districts, including the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands.Sunday 6 AprilThe next upper level trough should extend through New South Wales and pass over southeast Queensland during the day. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over southern parts, more isolated in the southwest. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the far north and the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Isolated showers in the remaining onshore airflow.Monday 7 AprilAn upper ridge developing over the east central parts of the state should keep weather conditions fairly benign over most of the state, with just isolated showers about the southeast and far northeast of the state. Isolated showers and storms over the far southwest and northwest as a new upper level trough approaches.Tuesday until ThursdayAnother upper trough should move eastwards through central Australia, and should push showers and thunderstorms into the far southwest. Isolated showers should continue along the east coast due to an onshore flow, with thunderstorms possible about parts of the eastern interior early in the new week. Showers and thunderstorms should be more widespread over the far northern districts.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
