MELBOURNE - Apr 2/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front is now east of Tasmania and a related surface trough will stall over the northeast of the State this evening. The trough will extend through the northeast on Thursday, while a high pressure system will build south of the Bight to be centred west of Tasmania by the evening. The high will move over the south Tasman Sea on Friday as a low pressure system develops east of Bass Strait. The low will deepen east of Bass Strait on Saturday as a high pressure system drifts eastwards to the south of Tasmania on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of rain and isolated thunderstorms in the north and east, isolated showers or drizzle elsewhere in the south but clearing from the southwest. Rain and storms increasing in the northeast with local heavy falls possible. Moderate south to southwesterly winds win the west and south and north to northwesterly winds in the northeast.Thursday 3 AprilRain and isolated thunderstorms over eastern districts, contracting further eastwards during the day. Local heavy falls possible with storms in the northeast. Isolated showers and areas of drizzle over remaining southern areas, mostly clearing during the afternoon. Mostly cloudy in the east and south but sunny periods developing in the west. Cool to mild with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds, extending through the northeast by early afternoon.Fire Danger - High in the Mallee, low to moderate elsewhere.Friday 4 AprilRain areas in the east tending to isolated showers over central districts. Cloudy in the east, sunny periods in the west. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southeast to easterly winds.Saturday 5 AprilRain over Gippsland, easing to showers during the day. Isolated showers in central and southern districts, more frequent about the coast. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southeasterly winds in the south, light winds in the north.Sunday 6 AprilIsolated showers over Gippsland, fine over the remainder of the State. Partly cloudy in the east and south, sunny over the northern inland.
