MELBOURNE - Apr 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure ridge lies over eastern NSW while a weak, slow moving trough extends from Queensland into the far north of the state. The ridge will contract to the northeast on Wednesday as a front approaches from the southwest. This front should bring unsettled conditions and rain to most western and southern districts later in the week as it moves slowly eastward. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers in the north, more widespread and with isolated thunderstorms over the northeastern inland areas this afternoon and early evening. Isolated afternoon showers on the southern ranges near the Victorian border. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. East to northeasterly winds.Wednesday 2 AprilIsolated showers across the state, more widespread and with isolated thunderstorms over the northeastern inland areas. Areas of rain developing over the southwest of the state by the end of the day. The chance of thunderstorms also over the coastal ranges in the far south and the north. Northerly winds ahead of a southwesterly change in the southwest during the day.Thursday 3 AprilRain over the southwest of the state, extending eastwards, and with thunderstorms developing, to reach the coast by the afternoon. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over most of the northern half of the state, becoming more widespread during the afternoon over inland areas and during the evening over central parts of the coast. Locally heavy falls possible, particularly with thunderstorms and over the western slopes of the southern ranges. North to northeasterly winds in the northeast, with a southerly change extending across the remainder.Friday 4 AprilRain and thunderstorms contracting to central and south eastern parts of the state during the day. Moderate to heavy falls possible over the southeast. Mostly fine in the northeast, just isolated showers along the coast near the Queensland border. Southeast to northeasterly winds.Saturday 5 AprilRain clearing early in the east, although showers remaining over the western slopes until afternoon and over northeastern inland areas until evening.
