MELBOURNE - Apr 1/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure lies along the east coast of Queensland, and will gradually strengthen into the middle part of the week. A surface trough stretches from the northwest of the state to the Warrego, and will remain in the area over the next few days. A weak upper level trough will assist storm development over the state's southwest today, and a new, stronger upper trough will do the same as it drifts across the state's southern interior late in the week. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayIsolated showers and thunderstorms through most western districts, more widespread about the Warrego. Mainly isolated showers along the east coast and Central Highlands. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Very warm in the southwest. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds.Wednesday 2 AprilThe surface trough will remain over the west, while the ridge of high pressure will remain along the east coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior, and more isolated activity over the remaining western districts. Mostly isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Thursday 3 AprilA stronger upper level trough will approach the far southwest during the day, helping to generate isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western and southern interior. Mostly isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland areas, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Friday 4 AprilThe upper trough will advance only slowly eastwards, maintaining the instability over the far west, producing scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior. A ridge of high pressure will maintain the onshore flow and mainly isolated showers along the east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast.Saturday until MondayThe upper trough will advance slowly eastwards, allowing an area of showers and storms to spread gradually eastwards across the southern interior during the weekend.
