Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 31/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A ridge of high pressure extends along the east coast of Queensland, and will gradually strengthen into the middle part of the week. A surface trough stretches from the northwest to the Warrego, and will move very slowly westwards over the next few days. A series of weak upper level troughs will track eastwards over the southern half of the state during the week.
Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the central western Queensland and the far northern tropics. Mainly isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds.Tuesday 1 AprilIsolated showers and thunderstorms through most western districts, more scattered about the Warrego. Mainly isolated showers along the east coast and central highlands. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Very warm in the southwest. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds.Wednesday 2 AprilA weak upper level trough will move eastwards through the southern inland during the day, while the surface trough will remain slow moving over the west. The ridge will remain in place along the east coast, although it will weaken in the south. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior, and more isolated activity over the far northern tropics. Mostly isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland areas. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Thursday 3 AprilThe initial upper trough will move off the east coast, while a second stronger upper trough will approach the far southwest during the day. The surface trough will move west, into far southwestern Queensland, while the ridge along the east coast will be virtually unchanged. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the western and southern interior. Mostly isolated showers about the east coast and nearby inland areas, more widespread about the North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state.Friday 4 AprilThe upper trough will advance only slowly eastwards, maintaining the instability over the far west, with isolated showers and thunderstorms likely as a result. A ridge of high pressure will maintain the onshore flow and isolated to scattered showers along the east coast.Saturday until MondayThe upper trough will advance slowly eastwards, with the surface trough also moving eastwards across southern Queensland, possibly reaching the southeast coast on Monday. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms will accompany these features across the southern inland. Further north, the ridge is likely to persist along the tropical east coast, with isolated showers in the onshore flow.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
