U.S. Flax Area Almost Double

WASHINGTON - Mar 31/14 - SNS -- Producers intend to plant 326,000 acres of flaxseed in 2014, up 145,000 acres or 80% more than was planted in 2013, according to the USDA's seeding intentions estimates for 2014.

Acreage in North Dakota, the largest flaxseed-producing State, is up 100%, or 150,000 acres from 2013. Growers in that State were unable to plant all of their intended acreage last year due to unfavorable spring planting conditions.
