MELBOURNE - Mar 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will move over the New Zealand north island on Friday. A trough over western districts will move slowly east overnight and be over eastern districts by midday Friday then east of the State by Friday evening. Another high pressure system over the Bight on Friday will extend a ridge toward Tasmania later in the day with the high weakening as it crosses Tasmania on Saturday. The next cold front enters the Bight on Saturday and will cross the Bight to be approaching western Bass Strait late on Sunday before weakening and moving off to to the south of Tasmania on Monday as an associated trough moves into southwestern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over central and northeastern districts tending more isolated elsewhere. Isolated thunderstorms possible over most areas. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, locally fresh over the eastern ranges. Light southerly winds in the west.Friday 28 MarchEarly fog patches in the west. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over central and eastern districts contracting to the far east and mostly clearing in the late afternoon and evening. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing over western districts in the afternoon. Mild in the south, warm in the north with light to moderate northerly winds tending light southerly over western districts then extending throughout in the afternoon.Fire Danger - Low to moderate.Saturday 29 MarchMorning fog patches inland and isolated morning showers or drizzle over East Gippsland. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing over western districts and near the central and eastern ranges in the afternoon. Warm with light winds tending west to northwesterly inland and milder afternoon coastal seabreezes.Sunday 30 MarchFine and partly cloudy. Warm in the south and east, very warm in the northwest with light to moderate northerly winds freshening over the western ranges. Milder afternoon seabreezes developing along the Gippsland coast.Monday 31 MarchIsolated showers developing over the southwest in the afternoon and evening.
