Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge lies just off central and southern parts of the east coast, and is expected to strengthen as a high pressure system builds over the Tasman Sea. A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior, and is likely to intensify as an upper trough builds into Queensland. These two systems will continue to combine to produce a significant rain-bearing weather system for eastern and central Queensland through the remainder of this week. A weak surface trough lies near the northeast coast.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of thundery rain over most eastern, central interior and southern interior districts, with some moderate to locally heavy falls in a band from the central coast southwards to the central and southern interior. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over the far northern tropics and into western Queensland, though fine and partly cloudy in the far west. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh about the southern and central coast. Moderate to fresh southerly winds in the far west.Thursday 27 MarchRain areas and isolated thunderstorms with some moderate to heave falls over the southeast quarter of the state. Showers and thunderstorms for most of the remainder of the state, though fine in the far west.Friday 28 MarchShowers and thunderstorms over the central and far northern districts, and areas of thundery rain with moderate to locally heavy falls about the far southeast of the state. Fine in the west, though isolated showers into the southwest.Saturday 29 MarchIsolated showers and thunderstorms over northern and eastern Queensland, tending scattered about the Gulf of Carpentaria coast. Scattered showers along the North Tropical Coast. Fine in the southwest.Sunday until TuesdayShowers and thunderstorms to continue for most of the state, but less likely in western Queensland.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700
