MELBOURNE - Mar 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system located south of the Bight extends a ridge across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea and will drift eastwards and to reach the Tasman Sea by Thursday. Meanwhile, an inland trough stretching from New South Wales to northern Victoria and is moving slowly westwards to be near the South Australian border. The trough will then move eastwards across Victoria on Friday, with a low pressure expected to form to the east of Tasmania Friday night. The next cold front will approach the Bight later Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers mainly over the northwest and east. Possible thunderstorms over the northwest and along the northern border. Moderate to locally fresh southeasterly winds.Wednesday 26 MarchScattered showers and the chance of thunderstorms, mainly in the north and east, increasing to rain areas in the east during the evening. Mild to warm day with moderate east to northeasterly winds, freshening near the coast.Fire Danger - High in the north and west.Thursday 27 MarchRain areas over central and eastern areas, grading to isolated showers across the western border. The chance of thunderstorms over most areas. Mild day with moderate northeasterly winds, freshening near the coast. Light southerly winds in the far west.Friday 28 MarchRain areas and isolated thunderstorms over central and eastern areas, contracting eastwards and easing to showers during the day. Isolated showers clearing in the west. Mild in the south, warm in the north with moderate northerly winds shifting west to southwesterly.Saturday 29 MarchIsolated showers in the east and south, contracting to the east during the morning and clearing by the evening. Chance of a thunderstorm in the east.
