MELBOURNE - Mar 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge lies just off central and southern parts of the east coast, and should begin to strengthen from today as a high pressure system builds over the Tasman Sea. A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior, and is likely to intensify as an upper trough builds into Queensland. These two systems are expected to combine into a significant rain-bearing weather system for eastern and central Queensland through the remainder of this week. A weak surface trough lies near the northeast coast. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayAreas of thundery rain over most eastern, central interior and southern interior districts, with some moderate to locally heavy falls in a band from the North Tropical Coast south to the central interior. Some thunderstorms may also become severe about the central and southern interior districts. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms elsewhere, though fine and partly cloudy in the far west. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds, fresh about the southern and central coast. Moderate to fresh southerly winds in the far west.Wednesday 26 MarchAreas of thundery rain over most eastern districts with moderate to locally heavy falls in a band from the North Tropical and Central coasts down across the Central Highlands and into the southern interior. More isolated showers and storms over the far northern tropics and the central west, and fine in the far west. Winds increasing about the central and southeast coasts.Thursday 27 MarchShowers and thunderstorms for most of the state, though fine in the far west. Showers and storms tending to thundery rain with moderate to locally heavy falls about southeastern and central districts.Friday 28 MarchShowers and thunderstorms over the central and far northern districts, and areas of thundery rain with moderate to locally heavy falls about the far southeast of the state. Fine apart from some isolated thunderstorms with little or no rain in the far west.Saturday until MondayShowers and thunderstorms to continue for most of the state.
