MELBOURNE - Mar 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea. The high will drift eastwards and will be centred over the Tasman Sea on Thursday. Meanwhile, an inland trough stretching from New South Wales to northern Victoria is forecast to move westwards on Wednesday and will be near the South Australian border on Thursday. The trough will then move eastwards across Victoria on Friday, with a low pressure centre expected to form to the east of Tasmania Friday night. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers mainly over the north and east. Possible thunderstorms over the northwest and along the northern border. Mild to warm with moderate to locally fresh southeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Generally low to moderate.Wednesday 26 MarchScattered showers and the chance of thunderstorms, mainly in the north and east. Mild to warm day with light to moderate east to northeasterly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Thursday 27 MarchRain areas extending across most districts and isolated thunderstorms. Mild day with moderate northeasterly winds.Friday 28 MarchRain areas and isolated thunderstorms contracting eastwards, but isolated showers remaining in the west.
