MELBOURNE - Mar 24/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A lingering trough lies from the northern inland through to central parts of the coast and is associated with a cold front to the southeast of Tasmania. A high pressure system near New Zealand extends a ridge to the northern coast, while a second high pressure system over the Bight extends another ridge along southern New South Wales. A cold, moist and and unstable upper atmosphere over southern parts of the state is combining with the surface trough to bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds to central and southern parts of the coast. The trough is expected to move slowly westwards today, with a gradual easing of rainfall later today. By Wednesday the high pressure system over the Bight, is forecast to move into the Tasman Sea, where it will become slow moving and the inland trough will continue to move further to the west towards South Australia. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayEarly fog patches in the east. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms in the east and south, tending to rain areas on the southern half of the coast with local heavy falls during the morning and early afternoon. Fine and partly cloudy in the northwest. Easterly winds throughout. Dangerous surf conditions in the north.Wednesday 26 MarchRain areas west of the ranges, likely more widespread and heavier over the central north. Scattered showers elsewhere. Possible isolated thunderstorms through most districts though less likely in the east. East to northeasterly winds.Thursday 27 MarchRain areas through most districts west of the ranges and in the northeast. Scattered showers about the southeast and in the far west. The chance of thunderstorms in the west. Northeast to southeasterly winds.Friday 28 MarchScattered showers through eastern and central districts. Isolated showers in the west. Isolated thunderstorms possible in most districts.
