Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 23/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge lies along the east coast, and should strengthen on Tuesday high pressure system builds over the Tasman Sea. A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior, and as likely to intensify into a significant rain-bearing weather system for eastern and central Queensland during next week (developing in association with a strong upper trough over Central Queensland). A weak surface trough may approach the northeast coast from the sea during Tuesday increasing the showers and rain in the region.
Forecast for the rest of MondayMainly scattered showers and at least isolated storms over much of the state, more widespread about the central and southern interior districts, and the North Tropical Coast. Some storms may be severe about the central and southern interior districts. Fine though partly cloudy in the far west. Light to moderate southeast to east winds over most of the state, moderate to fresh southerly in the far west. Deceptively powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities about the exposed waters in the southeast.Tuesday 25 MarchAreas of thundery rain over most eastern, central interior and southern interior districts, with some moderate to locally heavy falls in a band from the North Tropical Coast down to the central interior. Some thunderstorms may also become severe about the central and southern interior districts. Fine though partly cloudy in the far west.Wednesday 26 MarchAreas of thundery rain over most eastern districts with moderate to locally heavy falls in a band from the North Tropical and Central coasts down across the Central Highlands and into the southern interior. More isolated showers and storms over the far northern tropics and the central west, and fine except for some isolated thunderstorms with little or no rain in the far west. Winds increasing about the central and southeast coasts.Thursday 27 MarchShowers and thunderstorms over the central and far northern districts, and areas of thundery rain with moderate to locally heavy falls about the state's southeastern districts. Fine except for some isolated thunderstorms with little or no rain in the far west.Friday until SundayThe thundery rain should contract offshore late in the week but scattered showers and storms are still possible over remaining eastern and some central districts.
