MELBOURNE - Mar 21/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high near New Zealand extends a firm ridge along Queensland's east coast. A surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southern interior, and a weak tropical low (Ex-Tropical Cyclone Hadi) is moving westwards across the northern reaches of the Gulf of Carpentaria. Forecast for the rest of FridayFrequent showers and isolated thunderstorms about east coast districts north of about St. Lawrence, spreading to rain at times with some locally heavy falls. Scattered showers and thunderstorms through the remaining tropics. Isolated showers over the southeast districts, and isolated showers and thunderstorms through the southern interior. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds.Saturday 22 MarchFrequent showers and isolated storms north of about Townsville, with some locally heavy falls possible about the North Tropical Coast. Showers and storms through the northern and central interior, and isolated showers about the southeast. A weak low level trough should produce some mainly isolated showers and thunderstorms over the southwest.Fire Danger - A High Fire Danger over the southern and central districts.Sunday 23 MarchScattered showers and mainly isolated thunderstorms through the interior of the state and into the southeast inland. More frequent showers about the tropical east coast. A powerful easterly swell will develop about southern Queensland beaches.Monday 24 MarchScattered showers and thunderstorms in a band from the northwest of the state into the southern interior. More isolated showers and thunderstorms over the state's southeast, and widespread showers about the North Tropical Coast. A powerful easterly swell about southern Queensland beaches.Tuesday 25 MarchWidespread showers and storms over the northern districts and the central and southern interior districts. More isolated showers and possible storms about the southeast districts.Wednesday until FridayMainly scattered showers and storms in a band from the tropical east coast down to the central and southern interior districts, possibly easing during the week.
