Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 17/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak ridge of high pressure extends across New South Wales today in the wake of a trough and cold front. This ridge will promote fine and stable weather over most of inland New South Wales during the first half of the week, with unsettled weather in the east and northeast due to a lingering trough. A strengthening high over the southern Tasman Sea during the second half of the week will lead to an increased likelihood of showers moving onshore, but will block the progress of frontal systems approaching from the Southern Ocean until at least the weekend.
Forecast for the rest of MondayFine apart from the chance of light showers over the Alpine peaks. Southwesterly winds becoming southeast to northeasterly near the coast. Dangerous surf conditions along the entire coast, easing tonight.Tuesday 18 MarchIsolated showers in the northeast with the chance of thunderstorms. Isolated showers in the far south and southeast, mainly about the ranges. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southwest to southeasterly winds inland, tending northeasterly near the coast.Wednesday 19 MarchIsolated showers in the east and northeast. Chance of thunderstorms in the northeast and about the southern and central slopes and ranges. Dry elsewhere. Southeast winds.Thursday 20 MarchIsolated showers about the east and northeast, tending scattered about the northern coast. Chance of thunderstorms in the northeast. Partly cloudy elsewhere. East to southeast windsFriday 21 MarchChance of isolated showers across much of the state, mainly about the far northeast. Chance of thunderstorms about the central inland.
