MELBOURNE - Mar 13/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A broad low pressure trough lies across inland New South Wales. On Friday the trough will move west and weaken as a weak high pressure ridge develops along the coast and another trough and cold front system approaches from the west. The new trough system will move through the state state during Saturday and Sunday. Further east Tropical Cyclone Lusi is located to the southwest of Fiji and is moving southwards towards New Zealand. A large easterly swell will develop between TC Lusi and the high pressure ridge which is lying over the southern Tasman Sea. This swell is expected to affect northern parts of the coast late Saturday and then extend throughout the coast on Sunday. A weak high pressure ridge is expected to develop over southeastern Australia on Monday. Forecast for the rest of FridayPartly cloudy in the west. Isolated showers or thunderstorms in the eastern and central parts tending scattered in the afternoon on the western slopes of the northern and central ranges. Northeast to southeasterly winds in the east, tending light and variable further inland.Saturday 15 MarchEarly morning fog patches along the coast and ranges. Isolated showers, mainly in the south and along the ranges. Showers tending scattered in the southwest and over the Alps during the afternoon. The chance of thunderstorms in the southern half of the state. Northwest to northeasterly winds, tending southwest in the far southwest.Sunday 16 MarchPartly cloudy. Isolated showers tending scattered over the ranges and slopes. Chance of thunderstorms, apart from in the far west, more likely over the ranges and slopes in the north. Southwesterly winds in the southwest of the state, extending through to central parts. Otherwise northwest to northeasterly winds.Monday 17 MarchThe chance of showers in the northeast and over the Alpine area. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. West to southwest winds in the south.
