MELBOURNE - Mar 11/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system over the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards across New Zealand on Wednesday and Thursday. A low pressure trough over southwest of Victoria will push eastwards to reach the east of the State on Wednesday morning and a weakening cold front will follow across coastal parts of the State early on Wednesday. A new high pressure system will form over Bight waters on Wednesday and will push across Bass Strait on Thursday to link with the first high pressure system over New Zealand by Friday. A deepening low pressure system will cross Bight waters on Saturday and an associated trough will reach western Victoria late in the afternoon. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms near and south of the divide, tending to rain tonight over central and eastern areas. Isolated showers and possible thunderstorms in the north. Warm and generally cloudy with moderate to locally fresh northwesterly winds ahead of a cooler southwesterly change in the west, extending eastwards overnight.Wednesday 12 MarchRain and isolated thunderstorms over eastern districts, easing to showers during the morning then contracting to East Gippsland during the afternoon. Isolated coastal showers to follow, also clearing from the west in the afternoon. Generally cool to mild with moderate southwesterly winds but remaining warm in the northeast.Fire Danger - Moderate to high.Thursday 13 MarchFine apart from the chance of showers in the far east until early afternoon. Local morning fog in the south and east. Mild and mostly sunny with light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.Friday 14 MarchFine apart from isolated morning fogs in the south and the chance of afternoon showers in the far east. A warm mostly sunny day with light wind tending northerly and afternoon coastal sea breezes.Saturday 15 MarchMainly fine at first although cloud increasing and warm northerly winds, locally freshening.
