Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure trough will linger over northeastern Victoria during tonight and Saturday. A high pressure system over Bight waters extends a ridge across Tasmania to a smaller high centre over the southern Tasman Sea. The main high will drift eastwards passing over Tasmania tonight to join with the Tasman Sea high centre on Saturday. The resulting large high pressure system will then consolidate over the central Tasman Sea on Sunday and Monday, moving over New Zealand later on Tuesday. A weak cold front will approach western Victoria late on Monday and will slip to the south but a weak trough will enter western Victoria on Monday afternoon and weaken. A stronger cold front will enter western Victoria on Tuesday afternoon, moving to the east at night.
Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers or drizzle over southern areas. Possible evening thunderstorms over East Gippsland. Fine over northern areas. Southwest to southeasterly winds, moderate at first near the coast.Saturday 8 MarchIsolated showers in the east and south with possible afternoon thunderstorms near the eastern ranges. Fine elsewhere. Mild near the coast, warmer inland with generally light southeast to easterly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger -  Locally high.Sunday 9 MarchFine apart from the chance of isolated afternoon showers over the eastern ranges. Warm to hot inland with a light to moderate northeasterly wind but milder near the coast with afternoon seabreezes.Monday 10 MarchFine apart from isolated showers developing over the southwest and isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern ranges. A warm to hot day with a light to moderate northerly wind turning southwesterly in the far southwest later.Tuesday 11 MarchEarly fog patches inland. Scattered showers developing in western and central districts. Warm to hot, moderate to fresh northerly winds ahead of a cooler southwesterly change extending from the west.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Saturday.Product IDV10310
