MELBOURNE - Mar 7/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will linger over northeastern Victoria during Friday and Saturday. A high pressure system over Bight waters extends a ridge across Tasmania to a smaller high centre over the southern Tasman Sea. The main high will drift eastwards passing over Tasmania on Friday to join with the Tasman Sea high centre on Saturday. The resulting large high pressure system will then consolidate over the central Tasman Sea on Sunday and Monday. A weak cold front will approach western Victoria late on Monday and will slip to the south but a weak trough will enter western Victoria Monday night. Forecast for the rest of FridayIsolated showers or drizzle developing over southern areas and becoming scattered about parts of the coast and in the far east. Possible afternoon thunderstorms over East Gippsland. Fine over northern areas. Mild in the south, but warmer north of the divide with generally light to moderate south to southeasterly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger - Moderate to High.Saturday 8 MarchIsolated showers in the east and south with possible afternoon thunderstorms near the eastern ranges. Fine elsewhere. Mild in the south, but warmer north of the divide with generally light southeasterly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Sunday 9 MarchFine apart from the chance of isolated showers over the eastern ranges. Warm inland with a light to moderate northeasterly wind but milder near the coast with afternoon seabreezes.Monday 10 MarchFine apart from isolated showers developing over the southwest and isolated afternoon thunderstorms over the eastern ranges.
