Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 5/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A tropical low lies over the Solomon Sea, to the west of the Solomon Islands, and is expected to move in a general southwesterly direction over the next few days whilst slowly developing. Forecasts late in the week and into the weekend over northern Queensland will be highly dependent on the development and movement of this low.
A high over the Tasman Sea will weaken during today, gradually relaxing the ridge along the east Queensland coast. The ridge will then be reinforced by a new high moving east into southeastern Australia on Friday. A series of weak upper troughs will move across the south of the state over the next few days, maintaining the weak instability near the inland surface trough over western Queensland.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayIsolated showers about much of the east coast and adjacent inland, more frequent about the east tropical coast. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms over western Queensland and through the northern tropics. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds for most parts.Thursday 6 MarchIsolated to scattered showers about the east coast, tending to scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the far north. Isolated showers and thunderstorms possible over the southwest. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere over the interior. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeast winds for most parts.Fire Danger - Very High about the Central Highlands and Darling Downs.Friday 7 MarchUncertainty exists with the movement and development of the tropical system in the Coral Sea, and forecasts for northeastern Queensland are highly dependent on the development of this system. The system will most likely continue moving in a general southwesterly direction over the Coral Sea while slowly developing, and as result showers may increase along the east tropical coast late in the day. Isolated to scattered showers will occur about the remaining east coast in the onshore wind flow. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms about the far north of the state near the monsoon trough. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible over the southern interior as a weak upper trough remains in the area.Saturday 8 MarchUncertainty persists with the movement and development of the tropical system in the Coral Sea and forecasts for northeastern Queensland are highly dependent on the development of this system. The system will most likely continue moving southwest or southwards over the Coral Sea and may approach the northeast coast of Queensland, and there is a high probability of the system developing into a tropical cyclone. Showers and rain areas expected to increase along the tropical and central coasts, with isolated showers along the remaining east coast. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected in the far north and over the southern interior.Sunday 9 MarchRain areas and thunderstorms with some heavy falls are likely about the east tropical and central coasts. Isolated to scattered showers will occur further south along east coast in an onshore wind flow. Isolated to scattered showers and storms will persist in the far north of the state. Isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southwest.Monday until WednesdayForecasts during the outlook period are highly dependent on the development and movement of the tropical system. Rain areas and thunderstorms with some heavy falls are likely about the east tropical and central coasts. Isolated to scattered showers will occur further south along east coast in an onshore wind flow. Isolated to scattered showers and storms will persist in the far north of the state. Fine over the west. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
