MELBOURNE - Mar 3/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is located over the Tasman Sea and will remain there for a number of days. A cold front and associated low pressure trough south of the Bight will move eastwards to enter southwest Victoria later this evening and will cross most remaining districts on Wednesday, before stalling over the northeast. The trough will remain over northeast Victoria on Thursday and Friday as a new high pressure system extends a ridge from the Bight, across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayLocal morning fog and mist in the south. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms developing from the northwest and extending over remaining western and central parts of Victoria later this afternoon and evening. Fine in the east apart from the chance of an afternoon shower over the ranges and areas of smoke haze over Gippsland. Very warm with light to moderate northerly winds and afternoon seabreezes developing along the Gippsland coast. A milder south to southwest change entering the far southwest this evening.Fire Danger - Generally high, reaching very high over the Southwest and Central district.Wednesday 5 MarchScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over central and eastern districts , gradually clearing from the west. Isolated morning showers over the southwest. Dry over the northwest. Warm at first in the north and east with light northerly winds but a milder southerly winds gradually extending throughout.Thursday 6 MarchIsolated showers in the east with possible afternoon thunderstorms about northeast. Dry in the west. Mild in the south, but warmer north of the divide with generally light southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon and inland during the evening.Friday 7 MarchIsolated showers in the east and south with possible afternoon thunderstorms about northeast. Dry over the northwest.
