MELBOURNE - Mar 3/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over Tasmania is moving eastwards and will reach the Tasman Sea tonight. A cold front and associated low pressure trough crossing waters south of the Bight will enter southwest Victoria late Tuesday and will cross most remaining districts on Wednesday, before stalling over the northeast. The trough will remain over northeast Victoria on Thursday and Friday as a new high pressure system extends a ridge from the Bight, across Tasmania to the Tasman Sea. Forecast for the rest of MondayClear tonight with generally light winds although areas of smoke haze over Gippsland.Tuesday 4 MarchLocal morning fog in the south. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developing over the west and parts of central Victoria during the afternoon and evening. Fine in the east apart from areas of smoke haze over Gippsland. Very warm with generally light to moderate northerly winds, although afternoon seabreezes developing along the Gippsland coast.Fire Danger - Generally high, reaching very high over the Southwest and Central district.Wednesday 5 MarchScattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over central and eastern districts , gradually clearing from the west. Isolated morning showers over the southwest. Dry over the northwest. Warm at first in the north and east with light northerly winds but a milder southerly winds gradually extending throughout.Thursday 6 MarchIsolated showers in the east with possible afternoon thunderstorms about northeast. Dry in the west. Mild in the south, but warmer north of the divide with generally light southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon and inland during the evening.Friday 7 MarchIsolated showers in the east and south with possible afternoon thunderstorms about northeast. Dry over the northwest.
