MELBOURNE - Mar 2/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system just west of Bass Strait extends a ridge eastwards to the Tasman Sea. The high will drift eastwards across Tasmania on Monday morning then out to the central Tasman Sea on Tuesday. A cold front will pass south of the Bight on Tuesday to reach southwest Victoria at night then cross the remainder of southern Victoria on Wednesday. On Thursday a new high pressure system moving over Bight waters will extend a ridge to the south of Tasmania and an inland low pressure trough will dip southwards into northern Victoria. Forecast for the rest of SundayIsolated showers in far East Gippsland but fine over the remainder. Generally clear in the north but low cloud areas in the south. Smoke over parts of Gippsland. Light to moderate south to southeast winds.Monday 3 MarchBecoming fine and mainly sunny after early drizzle patches about the Gippsland coast and local morning fogs in the south. Patchy smoke persisting over Gippsland. Warm with light east to northeast winds inland but milder near the coast with afternoon seabreezes.Fire Danger - Moderate to high.Tuesday 4 MarchFine apart from morning fog patches in the south and isolated showers and possible thunderstorms developing in the northwest during the afternoon. Very warm and mostly sunny with a light to moderate northerly wind.Wednesday 5 MarchIsolated showers and thunderstorms extending from the northwest into central districts in the morning then pushing into eastern districts with the showers becoming more extensive about the eastern ranges. Isolated showers in the southwest. Warm at first in the north and east with light to moderate northerly winds but a milder southerly change slowly extending throughout.Thursday 6 MarchIsolated showers in the east with possible afternoon thunderstorms about the eastern highlands. Dry in the west.
