The high will extend a ridge along much of the east Queensland coast over the weekend which should strengthen early next week.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms should continue in the far norther tropics in the general moist and unstable airmass. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere.Monday 3 MarchThe high will move into the southern Tasman Sea, with the ridge and isolated showers persisting along the east coast and adjacent inland. The ridge along the east coast is expected to strengthen with fresh to strong winds developing along much of the east coast of Queensland. A low over the northern Coral Sea is expected to move westwards and is likely to develop further, but remain well offshore of the Queensland coast. There is some uncertainty in the development and movement of the tropical low or possible cyclone in the northern Coral Sea but the system is likely to continue to move westwards across the northern Coral Sea. Fresh to strong southeast winds about the east coast will bring isolated showers on to the east coast and adjacent inland, becoming more frequent about the coast north of about Bowen. An upper trough is likely to move eastwards across the southern interior with isolated showers and thunderstorms about the southwest and the Warrego. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across the northern tropics. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Wednesday until FridayA ridge is likely to persist along the southern Queensland east coast.
