MELBOURNE - Feb 27/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A surface trough over the far west of the state will remain slow moving until the weekend. An upper trough over central Australia will combine with the surface trough to produce scattered showers, rain areas and thunderstorms over the western Queensland. A high near New Zealand extends a ridge along the east Queensland coast. The next high will move through southeastern Australia later this week firming the ridge along the east coast. Forecast for the rest of FridayShowers and thunderstorms with rain areas will persist in western and southwestern districts, though begin to clear in the far southwest late in the day. Isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms should also continue over the northern tropics, while showers along the rest of the east coast will increase in a freshening southeasterly flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. Mostly light to moderate southeast to northeast winds.Saturday 1 MarchThe high will move eastwards towards the Tasman Sea, maintaining the ridge along the east coast of Queensland. Isolated to scattered showers about the east coast in the onshore wind flow. Showers and storms will persist about the far northern tropics and northwest of the state. An upper level trough will remain slow moving near western Queensland, with scattered showers and storms expected through the west and southern inland.Sunday 2 MarchThe high will move over Tasmania maintaining a ridge and showers along the east coast. The inland trough should also remain slow-moving over the west of the state, producing showers and thunderstorms, although this activity is likely to become more isolated with the loss of support from the upper trough. Showers and thunderstorms are also likely to continue about the far north.Monday 3 MarchThe high will move into the southern Tasman Sea, with the ridge and showers persisting along the east coast. A low over the Coral Sea is expected to move westward and develop further, but remain well offshore of the Queensland coast. Showers and thunderstorms are also likely to continue about the southwest and far northwestern tropics.Tuesday until ThursdayThe high will move slowly over the Tasman Sea, with the ridge and showers persisting along the east coast. At this stage there is much uncertainty to the movement and development of the Coral Sea low. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to continue about the west and far north, though activity is likely to become more isolated later in the week. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Friday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board Queensland's improving weather services Northwest Queensland weather radar installation complete Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 02:00 on Friday 28 February 2014 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2014, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "www") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
