MELBOURNE - Feb 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak cold front over southern Victoria will clear eastwards this afternoon. A low pressure trough will extend from NSW to northern Victoria on Friday and Saturday as a high pressure system south of the Bight extends a ridge eastwards to the Tasman Sea. The high will drift eastwards across Tasmania on Sunday, reaching the Tasman Sea on Monday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayCloudy at first in the south with isolated light showers or drizzle patches, clearing over western and central areas during the morning and in the east this afternoon. Fine and mainly sunny north of the divide. Generally mild with moderate to locally fresh south to southeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Generally HighFriday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers or thunderstorms developing over the northern central and northeast inland areas during the late afternoon or evening. Fine and mainly sunny over the remainder. Mild to warm with light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds and freshening afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Saturday 1 MarchIsolated showers and thunderstorms over northern districts, mainly during the afternoon. Mostly fine in the south apart some early morning drizzle about southern Gippsland. Mild to warm with light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds, freshening along the coast.Sunday 2 MarchIsolated showers clearing across the northern inland and the chance of early morning drizzle over southern Gippsland. Otherwise fine and partly cloudy.
