MELBOURNE - Feb 26/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over northeast Victoria will weaken overnight, before gradually strengthening again over the northern of Victoria on Friday and Saturday. Meanwhile, a weak cold front will move across east Bass Strait this evening and a second cold front will cross Tasmania tonight. The next high pressure system will cross Bight waters on Thursday and extend a ridge over Bass Strait, but will remain just west of Tasmania through till Saturday. The high will then drift eastwards across Tasmania on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of smoke haze in Gippsland. Scattered showers and local thunderstorms in the east, clearing during the evening. Moderate south to southwest winds, fresh at times about the coast and extending through the northeast overnight. Northwesterly winds about the eastern highlands at first.Thursday 27 FebruaryCloudy at first in the south with isolated light showers or drizzle patches, clearing over western and central areas during the morning and in the east by the evening. Morning fog patches in the south. Fine and mainly sunny north of the divide. Generally mild with moderate to locally fresh south to southeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Generally HighFriday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers or thunderstorms developing over the northern central and northeast inland areas during the afternoon. Fine and mainly sunny over the remainder. Mild to warm with light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds and freshening afternoon seabreezes near the coast.Saturday 1 MarchIsolated showers and thunderstorms over northern districts, mainly on and north of the ranges during the afternoon. Mostly fine in the south apart some early morning drizzle about southern Gippsland. Mild to warm with light to moderate northeast to southeasterly winds, freshening along the coast.Sunday 2 MarchIsolated showers clearing across the northern inland and the chance of early morning drizzle over southern Gippsland. Otherwise fine and partly cloudy.
