MELBOURNE - Feb 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough will linger over northeast Victoria on Wednesday then weaken somewhat on Thursday before gradually strengthening again over te north of Victoria on Friday and Saturday. A weak cold front is pushing across Bass Strait this morning and a second front will cross Tasmania late on Wednesday. The next high pressure system will cross Bight waters on Thursday and will straddle Tasmania on Friday before another cold front passes just south of Tasmania early Saturday, pushing the main high centre back to the west of Bass Strait. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayAreas of smoke haze in Gippsland. Isolated showers over southern areas during the morning, clearing in the early afternoon. Scattered showers and local thunderstorms developing in the northeast by the afternoon and extending to the Gippsland ranges also before contracting eastwards during the evening. Cool to mild and mostly cloudy in the south. Mild to warm in the north with sunny periods. Light to moderate southwest to southerly wind over most districts, freshening about the coast during the afternoon. Northwesterly winds about the eastern highlands tending southerly towards evening.Fire Danger - Generally high to very high.Thursday 27 FebruaryLocal morning drizzle in the south. Fine elsewhere. Generally mild with moderate to locally fresh south to southeasterly winds.Friday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers in the northeast and along the northern border. Generally mild with moderate southeast to easterly winds.Saturday 1 MarchIsolated showers, mainly over northern districts and about the ranges. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the northeast.
