MELBOURNE - Feb 25/14 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front is approaching western Victoria from Bight waters. A weak low pressure trough will move into the east of the State this evening. The cold front will then follow along the coast early on Wednesday and a second cold front will push across Tasmania later on Wednesday. The trough will linger over northeast Victoria on Wednesday and Thursday as the next high pressure system moves from south of the Bight towards Tasmania. The low pressure trough will deepen over northern Victoria on Friday and Saturday as a high pressure ridge stretches across Tasmania. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayAreas of smoke haze in Gippsland. Isolated showers or thunderstorms mainly over over central and eastern districts during the evening. A milder southwesterly change extending through most of the State, reaching the east at night.Wednesday 26 FebruaryAreas of smoke haze in Gippsland. Partly cloudy with isolated showers possible, mainly in the south in the morning. The chance of thunderstorms over the north and east, extending eastwards and clearing in the evening. Generally mild with light to moderate southerly winds, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.Fire Danger - Generally high to very high.Thursday 27 FebruaryLocal morning drizzle in the south. Fine elsewhere. Generally mild with moderate to locally fresh south to southeasterly winds.Friday 28 FebruaryIsolated showers in the northeast and along the northern border. Generally mild with moderate southeast to easterly winds.Saturday 1 MarchIsolated showers, mainly over northern districts and about the ranges. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms in the northeast.
